Spencer has been working with dogs since 2011, and is ready for anything you throw his way. He fell into this career by way of following his passions, and isn't looking back anytime soon. Spencer loves all breeds and types of dogs- but the greater the challenge, the more fun he has! Spencer understands dogs on a level that most people don't, considering their emotions, drive and unique personalities in order to better reach goals. He believes that all dogs deserve a chance, and no dog is beyond rehabilitation. Spencer does not believe in the use of 'training aids' such as electronic, prong or pinch collars, and sees them as a shortcut in communication. Spencer uses positive reinforcement based training, along with (painless) aversive technique as necessary. Most of all, he relies on his pack of dog mentors. Cashew is the leader of the dog pack, and has been with Spencer since 2011. Half Catahoula and half Yellow Lab, he has a strong, but friendly and confident energy that is attractive to other dogs, making him a perfect mentor.
Irie is Spencer's first dog, and they have been together since 2010. Irie is a calm, motherly Shar Pei/Rhodesian Ridgeback mix with a sweet but tough demeanor. She teaches appropriate play and boundary setting, and is often the mediator of the pack.
Tahini the Chiweenie is a small, but mighty dog at just 10lbs, that was found by Spencer as a puppy on the streets of Oakland, in 2015. She is fearless and full of energy, making her the perfect match for any dog with prey-drive toward the smaller pups.
The newest addition to the pack, but a long history with us all- Carter is a Catahoula and Australian Shepherd mix with energy that never ends. He is always ready to wrestle, fetch, hike or cuddle- so long as it makes everyone else happy.
